M, E and I all went on a shopping/errand running "adventure" today. By the time we arrived at our last, and longest, stop at the grocery store, E was running on something like half the amount of daytime sleep as usual and I was preparing myself for a bread aisle meltdown. I steeled myself against the waves of anxiety and followed my husband and daughter into the store, looking half-nuts I'm sure with my Tula dangling from my waist. I didn't care what a whacko I looked, I was determined to get my money's worth out of that cottony canvas mess of straps and buckles. (Well, not really a mess, and it's actually super simple to put on and use!)
I strapped E to my chest right away, and she immediately began grunting and cooing her excitement at all the pretty colors and things we walked past. She seriously loved "walking" around with us, more, it seemed, than riding in the shopping cart on previous trips. About halfway through our trip, E settled down, found her "milkie", and nursed herself to sleep. She slept on me for at least a good half hour, not minding the noise of people we walked past, the new sounds, smells or lights. She was peaceful, content and snuggled close. It felt so "right", I couldn't imagine how we had done these trips before.
Motherhood is... when $49 for a new pair of shoes is ridiculous, but $149 for a quality baby carrier is perfectly reasonable.
